Material honesty
We prefer surfaces that speak plainly about what they are — and age with grace.
A design-build practice rooted in Clerkenwell. We work closely with the people who commission our buildings and the people who make them.
Stonefold began in 2014 when architect Alexandra Stone wanted the work of drawing and building to feel less divided. Too often good ideas were lost between the studio desk and the construction site.
We began with a handful of London renovations. Today our architects, interior designers and construction leads work as one, with the same curiosity for a whole building as for the smallest junction.
We are still independently owned. We still visit the site first. And we still believe a building should be better after ten years of use than on the day it is photographed.
Stonefold opens in Clerkenwell with its first residential commission.
The workshop partnership makes bespoke joinery central to the studio.
Architecture and delivery are brought together as an integrated practice.
The Fold House reaches completion following a material-led retrofit.
The studio continues a small, considered programme of homes and workspaces.
We prefer surfaces that speak plainly about what they are — and age with grace.
Every joint, reveal and threshold deserves the same care as the broad idea.
We retain where we can, build to last and make thoughtful choices about embodied impact.
The best work happens when client, architect and maker share the same table.
Connects rigorous spatial thinking with an instinct for materials.
Makes daylight, proportion and daily life work beautifully together.
Finds warmth in precision and restraint in the right details.
Brings craftsmanship and clarity to complicated building sites.
Turns early ideas into coordinated drawings that contractors can trust.
Our material library and model-making space are part of everyday design conversations. We try things at scale, put samples in daylight and build mock-ups before the site needs answers.
Selected design distinctions and editorial coverage, from local conversations to international design titles.
The earlier we talk, the better the outcome. Tell us what you have in mind.
